About our magnetic pigments and how to use them:

The pigments in this series are designed with a base of iron powder coated with various oxide colorants that can be manipulated with strong magnets to create fun color shift and special effect patterning with the use of them. The effect resembles a chatoyant (cat's eye) effect. The magnet(s) affects the alignment of the particles, thus creating a “3d” shifting effect. We recommend a strong neodymium magnet (or two or more!) to create patterns, and are commonly found in stores. You can use these pigments with any epoxy resin or UV cured resin/suspensions or nail gel.

How to use:

The powders must be mixed (a little goes a long way!) into a medium such as resin or a few drops of UV cured nail gel first. Pour the resin in your mold, or paint the colored nail gel on your nails, do not cure. Move the magnet(s) over the resin or polish to create patterns. Magnetic patterns are affected by a few factors, such as proximity to the object, exposure time, location of impact, shape and the strength of the magnet, so experiment!

Once you’ve created the pattern you like, you must either leave the magnets in place while the resin cures solid, or immediately cure under UV light to “freeze” the patterns if your medium is a UV curing product. Lots of cool effects can be made with the use of one or several strong magnets, and different shapes of magnets will affect the design pattern as well.
